“Your Child’s First Step to a Lifetime of Learning”.
First Step is a nurturing, friendly Child Centre for children aged one to five-years old. At First Step we are committed to providing a welcoming, caring, educational and multicultural environment.
We strive to operate sustainably – by using organic products wherever possible, and natural materials in our playrooms such as, organic wooden toys, tables, benches and light table.
It is also our goal to exceed Canadian standards for health and safety and to ensure the well being of children and staff. We see ourselves as teachers, caregivers and, above all, partners dedicated to working with families and helping children realize their fullest potential.

Developmental approach to learning
Philosophy & Mission
Our Philosophy is based on the internationally acclaimed Reggio Emilia approach, based on fostering children’s interests, children are taught about the importance of preserving our natural environment through hands-on activities such as planting vegetable gardens. At First Step we are committed to providing children with a home-like environment filled with love, care and nurturing. We respect the uniqueness of each individual family’s customs and beliefs. Most importantly, we work with each family to promote your child’s self-esteem. Our belief is that every child is unique. Our program works to promote the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child.
Our childcare program is based on a developmental approach to learning, taking into consideration the social, emotional and cognitive growth of children, based on the development of verbal, motor, and critical-thinking skills through a developmentally appropriate, arts-integrated and play-based curriculum. At First Step we have structured schedules that include plenty of time for physical activity, quiet time (including daily reading sessions for groups and individuals), group programs, individual activities, meals, snacks and free time.
A Welcoming Home not a Facility.
Our location is in a safe home setting neighbourhood of North Vancouver. We provide an ample space to our children in every age group.
Why we choose a home setting for First Step? A home environment with Fewer Kids, Less Traffic, Less Sickness, Up Close & personal, better Bonding, Great Attachment and Family Relationship.
What Our Families are Saying
From the moment I met Nasi I knew I had found the perfect caregiver for my young daughter. She is warm, caring and deeply respectful of each young child in her care. Her center is clean, tidy, and spacious. The center is uniquely located near a natural park, where the children can go for walks to the duck pond amidst the forest. I highly recommend Nasi and her team at First Steps!
Nasi and her team were wonderful with my son’s transition into daycare. The center is beautiful and the care they give the children is above and beyond.
Very caring and homey atmosphere for the kids. Nasi and staff are respectful, responsible and kind. Thanks to Nasi and the staff My daughter has grown to be a happy, confident little girl who loves to learn and discover. I am certain that First Step is among the best daycares in the North Shore.
First Step Child Care Centre is absolutely wonderful. I cannot speak more highly of the experience we have had with Nasi and every aspect of her day care. My daughter started attending soon after her 1st birthday and seemed immediately comfortable and at ease in Nasi’s care. I love the thoughtful details, including the incredible home cooked food, the daily outdoor adventuring, the crafts, reading time, and play time. She clearly takes great pride in her work and genuinely cares and cherishes each child. We are so grateful that our daughter is in such a lovely, warm, and enriching environment. Thank you Nasi!
Dedicated to helping children realize their fullest potential.
Meet our Teachers
Centre Director/ ECE
I strongly believe that children are our future and, early Child development is one of the most important learning curves in better understanding children. It’s a necessity in order to be able to relate well and teach effectively. Today in our modern society, children come from many different backgrounds, cultures and family environments. Although every child is different they tend to fallow similar stages in their childhood development.
I strongly believe children have their own great potentials. My role as a teacher is helping each child develop various life skills and abilities while playing in nature.
I am super excited to have diverse experiences with beautiful young people.
