First Step is a nurturing, friendly Child Centre for children aged one to five-years old. At First Step we are committed to providing a welcoming, caring, educational and multicultural environment.
We strive to operate sustainably – by using organic products wherever possible, and natural materials in our playrooms such as, organic wooden toys, tables, benches and light table.
It is also our goal to exceed Canadian standards for health and safety and to ensure the well being of children and staff. We see ourselves as teachers, caregivers and, above all, partners dedicated to working with families and helping children realize their fullest potential.

Philosophy & Mission
Our Philosophy is based on the internationally acclaimed Reggio Emilia approach, based on fostering children’s interests, children are taught about the importance of preserving our natural environment through hands-on activities such as planting vegetable gardens. At First Step we are committed to providing children with a home-like environment filled with love, care and nurturing. We respect the uniqueness of each individual family’s customs and beliefs. Most importantly, we work with each family to promote your child’s self-esteem. Our belief is that every child is unique. Our program works to promote the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child.
Our Program
Our childcare program is based on a developmental approach to learning, taking into consideration the social, emotional and cognitive growth of children, based on the development of verbal, motor, and critical-thinking skills through a developmentally appropriate, arts-integrated and play-based curriculum. At First Step we have structured schedules that include plenty of time for physical activity, quiet time (including daily reading sessions for groups and individuals), group programs, individual activities, meals, snacks and free time.
Location
A Welcoming Home not a Facility.
Our location is in a safe home setting neighbourhood of North Vancouver. We provide an ample space to our children in every age group.

Meet our Teachers
Our staff consists of experienced certified ECE (early childhood educator). Everyone at First Step is required to meet or exceed all Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCF) requirements including CPR and First Aid certification.

I strongly believe that children are our future and, early Child development is one of the most important learning curves in better understanding children. It’s a necessity in order to be able to relate well and teach effectively. Today in our modern society, children come from many different backgrounds, cultures and family environments. Although every child is different they tend to fallow similar stages in their childhood development.
